Welcome to Kalorama, Mr. President!

The Obama family will be moving to Washington, D.C.’s Kalorama neighborhood come January. According to National Journal, the family has opted to rent a stunning historic home, pictured below. They will stay in the District at least until Sasha finishes her last two years at Sidwell Friends School.

“The leafy neighborhood is famous for its historic residences and grand embassies, making it a good fit for the president and first lady, who will need privacy, space for their security detail and easy access to the city’s political movers and shakers,” said Redfin Washington, D.C. agent Steve Centrella. At over 6,000 square feet, the family should have plenty of room to spread out.

The home was last sold in 2014 for about $5.3M, but no word on their monthly rent. At $1.37 million, the median sale price for a Kalorama home is well above the city-wide median of $520,000, but POTUS can afford it if they decided to buy instead of rent. In 2014, Obama had assets of at least $2 million, and that’s a lowball estimate. In addition to his $400,000 annual salary as president, he earned at least $64,000 from book sales. We’ll get an update on his 2015 finances soon.

The Obamas won’t be entirely ensconced among the District’s political elite. The community has apartments and moderately priced condos, too.

But he will have some famous neighbors. Kalorama is a short jaunt from the Clinton’s Washington, D.C., home. Donald Rumsfeld resided here, but the President won’t have to worry about an awkward run in since the Republican former defense secretary sold the property in 2014. The late Senator Ted Kennedy called this White House lookalike home.

Presidents Woodrow Wilson, William Taft, Franklin Roosevelt, Warren Harding and Herbert Hoover were all Kaloramans at some point.

“The neighborhood is primarily residential and ambassadorial, but is close to the more bustling hubs of Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan and Woodley Park,” said Centrella. “There are a few local gems nearby the family might enjoy. Mrs. Obama has been known to grab a coffee at Open City in Woodley Park. Washingtonians might remember that reservations at Mintwood Place became the hottest ticket in town after the Obamas dined there a few years back.”

Steve thinks the President might enjoy So’s Your Mom, an order at the counter deli with top-notch sandwiches. And while the First Lady has the space to tend her own private garden, she might enjoy meeting some neighbors at the Kalorama community garden.

It will be interesting to see how the Obama family adjusts to civilian life. Will they avoid the limelight and enjoy the chance to keep a low profile for a while? Or will they get out and interact with the community – setting trends as they go?

Of course, when it comes time to put down permanent roots– either in Washington, Chicago, Hawaii, or elsewhere– a Redfin agent will be more than happy to help them find their dream home.

Scott Disick is Ready to Move on from His Hidden Hills Mansion

Everyone’s favorite Kardashian ex is selling his Hidden Hills home for $8.8 million. He bought the house in December of 2015 for $5.98 million, and is letting it go just seven months later. He stands to make $2.94 million on the sale. That’s not a bad chunk of change for the famous reality star. Maybe Scott is finally ready to reconcile with Kourtney and settle down in a new luxe mansion.

This cape cod style mansion takes the term bachelor pad to a whole new level. At 8,110 square feet, seven bedrooms and six and a half bathrooms, this dream-worthy estate is certainly bigger than any bachelor pad we’ve seen. The lavish home also features a chef’s kitchen with two  marble islands, a wine cellar, a sparkling pool with a fountain (perfect for Scott’s three children to play in) and breathtaking views. Our favorite feature has to be the Kardashian-worthy walk-in-closet, which is perfect for anyone hoping to build a Kardashian-sized wardrobe.

This awe-inspiring house sits in the Hidden Hills area of L.A. The average home price in Hidden Hills is around $5.1 million, but Scott might get the$8.8 million he is hoping for if there is a chance of a Kardashian sighting (rumor has it that Kim and Kanye are neighbors).

Father’s Day is this Sunday and in honor of the holiday, we thought we would take a peek at the homes of some of our favorite celeb dads and their not-so-humble abodes. We picked new dad John Legend, funny man Chris Pratt and the world’s most famous dad…Jay Z.  Let’s took a look at the houses these famous fathers spend their days in.

John Legend

The 37-year-old John Legend has a long list of titles: Oscar winner, Grammy winner and husband. But, this past April he added father to the list. On April 14, he and wife Chrissy Teigen welcomed their daughter Luna Simone Stephens to the world, and into their new $14.1 million mansion.

The couple couldn’t have picked a more beautiful property to raise their baby girl. With five bedrooms, eight bathrooms and more than 8,520 square feet, this is the perfect home for the new family. They purchased the Beverly Hills mansion back in January. The adorable family’s perfect home also features a movie theater (ideal for family movie nights), a huge closet with a marble island, stunning ocean views and an infinity pool. The home also comes with a billiards room, complete with a bar and ocean views. It’s the perfect spot for John Legend to enjoy some quiet time away from the cameras on Father’s Day.

Chris Pratt

Who doesn’t love Chris Pratt? The “Guardians of the Galaxy” star and his hilarious wife Anna Faris live the dream life with their 3-year-old son, Jack. The famous celebrities were married back in 2009. Then in August of 2012, they welcomed their darling son into the world. To make room for their growing family, Anna and Chris purchased a $3.3 million house in L.A. The whimsical house is perfect for the family of three, with four bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths and a bountiful garden. The 4,710-square-foot home includes a pool, a gym and a tennis court. We can just see Chris Pratt spending his Father’s Day teaching Jack tennis on their enormous tennis court.

Jay Z

Jay Z and Beyonce may be experiencing some marital difficulties, after the release of Beyonce’s “Lemonade” (we all know about “Becky with the good hair”). But, hopefully Beyonce can take a break from her world tour, and celebrate Father’s Day with Jay Z and their daughter Blue Ivy in their $45 million rental. You read that right–the famous duo is renting a $45 million property for $150,000 a month! The mansion is located in the lavish neighborhood of Holmby Hills. This over-the-top 20,000-square-foot-house features five bedrooms, six bathrooms, an elaborate dining room, an olympic-sized indoor pool, spa and steam and massage rooms. The lavish mansion also features a main house, two separate guest houses and a sparkling outdoor pool with a waterfall. With essentially three houses at their disposal, we can see Jay Z spending his Father’s day playing the most epic game of hide-and-seek with Blue Ivy.

What’s the best way to cure a broken heart? Take in the stunning views of the surrounding area from your Beverly Hills mansion. Well, that’s what you would do if you could afford a $6.2 million not-so-humble abode. That’s exactly what Kris Humphries did post-split from Kim Kardashian. He purchased the property back in July 2015, making his relationship with his fabulous crib more successful than his marriage to Kim K, which lasted only 72 days. Congrats, Kris!

Scott Disick knows how to move on after a breakup; the reality TV star scooped up a modern abode back in December 2014 just after rumors swirled about his breakup with Kourtney Kardashian. They say money can’t buy happiness BUT if you could it would probably sound something like $3.7 million, which is what Disick splashed out for the chic Beverly Hills crib.  Heartache is probably a lot easier to deal with when you have a massive backyard and outdoor pool to help you grieve. The famous ex also just listed his seven-bedroom property in Hidden Hills for $8.8 million. He purchased it 2015 for $5.98 million.

Lamar has had a rocky few years since his divorce from Khloe Kardashian in 2013, but we can’t hate on his real estate moves. Odom purchased a Miami estate back in 2003 for $3 million, which is available to rent for just $20K a month. Not a bad investment, Odom!

After nine months on the market, the Palin family is about to say goodbye to their sunny getaway in Scottsdale, Arizona. The six-bedroom, 6.5-bathroom home is now pending, meaning someone submitted an offer. Palin originally listed the estate on December 21, 2015, for $2.499 million, but dropped the price a few months later to $2.375 million.

The gated estate sits on more than four acres of land and includes equestrian facilities, a basketball court, putting green, pool and an outdoor entertaining area with a built-in grill. Inside, there are Jacuzzi bathtubs, chef’s appliances in the kitchen, gorgeous fireplaces, a wine cellar, media room and rooftop deck complete with stunning mountain views. Palin purchased the home back in 2011 for $1.7 million, so she stands to make some money from the deal if it sells for anything near the current listing price of $2.375 million.

Brangelina’s Extensive Real Estate Portfolio–How Will They Split it Post-Split?

In a turn of events that’s sent the internet into a storm, Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt due to irreconcilable differences. According to court documents, the pair officially separated on September 15. Jolie is seeking physical custody of their six children and looks to grant Pitt visitation rights. But what about all of those houses!?

Their massive home in Los Feliz is one property that is TBD for now. The sprawling compound is 6,692 square feet with six bedrooms and seven bathrooms. Additional properties have been added to the estate over the years, making it much larger than when Pitt purchased it back in 1994 for $1.7 million. The Los Feliz home is currently valued at $6,683,346, according to the Redfin estimate.

The famous Hollywood couple also scooped up a French Quarter mansion in New Orleans back in 2006. The duo purchased the renovated 1830s home for Pitt’s filming of the movie “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” The NOLA estate was most recently listed for $5.65 million back in November of 2015, but has since been taken off the market.

Pitt and Jolie’s real estate portfolio even extends beyond U.S. borders. The A-list pair also owns a not-so-humble multi-residence estate in France called the Chateau Miraval, which is where they had their wedding back in 2014. According to reports, the two purchased the property in 2012 from American businessman Tom Bove for a reported $60 million.

They have also leased! Earlier this year, Pitt and Jolie rented a mansion for $21,000 a month in London while Pitt was filming his Netflix movie “War Machine,” according to reports back in April.

A NYC apartment on the Upper West Side, a traditional home in Cambodia’s Battambang Province and an ocean-front compound in Santa Barbara are also on the list of possible properties the two will have to divvy up during the divorce process.

Celeb Home Map Shows Even A-List Properties Don’t Always Go for Asking

It turns out that the old phrase “ask and you shall receive” doesn’t always work in real estate, even if you’re a celebrity. A-list stars might have fame and money, but many listed their homes at A-list prices and were sadly disappointed by the final sale of their properties.

We dug into some numbers on homes bought and sold by 60 celebrities and then pitted them up against the sales of comparable homes in the area. We found that celebrity-owned homes tend to be bigger with more bedrooms and bathrooms, and they cost more per square foot than other abodes nearby. That might not be a shock to most BUT we did find it interesting that, on average, star-owned properties stay on market for about 36 days longer than other homes and they usually sell for less than the original asking price.

“Celebrities will sometimes add amenities to a home, which might not be a selling point for future homebuyers,” said Redfin real estate agent Alec Traub. “For example, a celeb might install a basketball court in the basement of a home, where another person might want to use that space for something else. Those homebuyers may be less inclined to want to pay the initial asking price.” Traub says that another reason why star-owned homes tend to be harder to sell is because they’re harder to show. “You wouldn’t want to show a famous person’s home to just anyone, since stars value their privacy and don’t normally want to make their business public. Anyone looking to tour a celeb home would have to go through a vetting process, so the sale of the home takes a little longer than other homes.”

Selling for anything less than what you expected to get for a home is never fun, but some of these celebrities sold their homes for more than $1 million UNDER the asking price. For example, Matthew Perry had to settle for $2.85 million less than the original $25 million he thought his Malibu home was worth. Katy Perry suffered a similar fate and sold her Los Angeles home for $1.36 million less than the original asking price. Jessica Simpson is in the same boat, selling her Beverly Hills estate for $6.4 million, which is $1.595 million less than what she wanted for the home. You’ll find these three homes with a gold star on our celeb home map.

These stars didn’t always break even either; some of these celeb homeowners didn’t even get back what they originally paid for their not-so-humble abodes. Check it out for yourself:

Methodology

For this analysis, Redfin compiled data of the purchase and sale of 60 celebrity homes. We then gathered data on homes no further than 500 meters from the celebrity home that sold within one year of the celebrity home.

Brangelina Let Go of Their New Orleans Home for $4.9M!

anglina jolie and bradd pitt 2

To anyone who had hope of Brangelina reconciling their differences, we have some bad news. This past weekend, the famous ex-couple sold their New Orleans property for $4.9 million. The couple has started splitting up everything, including real estate. They purchased the French Quarter mansion back in 2006 for $3.5 million, while Pitt was filming “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” The duo stands to make $1.4 million from the sale. That makes for a nice chunk of change for the two to split.

The vintage NOLA estate is full of Brangelina history, as well as New Orleans history. The mansion was built back in 1866 and was home to the the famous R&B producer Cosimo Matassa, who recorded Ray Charles and Little Richard.

In addition to its rich history, the property features four bathrooms, five bedrooms and a landscaped courtyard complete with a fountain. The 7,645-square-foot house also includes a spiral staircase, elevator and a separate two-story guest house.

The elegant home resides in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The median list price is around $689,000. Though this charming home is way above the average listing price, the Redfin estimate has it at $5,441.255. For a house that has such an amazing New Orleans and Hollywood History, were not surprised!

Spaceships are making a huge comeback this fall, from movies like “Arrival” and “Passengers” to T.V. shows like “MARS.” The world is obsessed with space and spaceships; and it looks like the buyer of Bob Hope’s $13 million space age home is too. The futuristic estate looks more like an alien spacecraft than a traditional Palm Springs home. The modern property was designed by John Lautner in 1980 and stands as the largest private residence ever designed by the architect.

Bob Hope Estate Palm Springs (1)

The Bob Hope house has been on and off the market since 2014 and was originally priced at a whopping $34 million. The property has also entertained dignitaries from all over the world. It looks like the new owners scored on their sci-fi abode!

The 23,366 square-foot estate includes 10 bedrooms and 9.75 bathrooms. The innovative property features an indoor and outdoor pool, tennis court, putting green and spa. The lavish mansion also features stunning views of Coachella Valley, an elevator, maid’s quarters and a guest house. Our favorite feature has to be the striking design of the roof, which curves around the entire house.

The iconic compound resides in Palm Springs. The average list price in Palm Springs is around $400,000. Though the exquisite home is way above the average list price, the Redfin estimate has it at $23,009,381 million.  With all of the homes out-of-this-world features, were not surprised!
